ZERO THE HERO VISITS OUR ROOM!

We were just getting over the excitement of the Easter Bunny visiting us when we had another visitor today.  We got to school and found that ZERO THE HERO had come to visit us.  He visits us on days that have a zero in them.
We have been counting the number of days we have been at school and today was day number 50! That means it is a zero day and ZERO THE HERO loves zero days.
He left us a big book that has his favourite song in it - THE NUMBER STOMP!  We sang this song and stomped our feet all the way up to 100.  He also left us an activity sheet with a big number 50 on it and a box of stamps.  We used the stamps to decorate the number 50.  How many stamps do you think we had to put on it?
We also used chain links, unifix blocks and magnetic numbers to make 50!
We can't wait until he visits us again. What day will he visit us again?

A VISIT FROM THE EASTER BUNNY

After we came back from holidays we discovered that we had a visitor come to our room......it was THE EASTER BUNNY!!  We left our easter baskets in the classroom during the holidays and he filled them with eggs and a little fluffy chicken.  We knew it was the easter bunny because he left footprints in our room.  We noticed that the footprints started at our sliding door and ended on our computer table near a window.  We talked about it and decided that that was how he left our room.

SHAVING CREAM ART

We used paint and shaving cream to decorate our giant Easter Eggs.  First we sprayed the shaving cream onto a tray, then we squirted some paint onto the shaving cream.  After that we got the end of a paint brush and swirled the paint through the shaving cream.  We then carefully placed the paper on top of the shaving cream, used our fingers to pat it gently and then we lifted the paper off the shaving cream.  We then scrapped the shaving cream off and we were left with amazing marble designs. What do you think of them?

NUMBER 7 AND THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR

This week Mrs Randall read THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR.  We thought that she was reading it because caterpillar started with C and that was one of the letters we were doing this week but she read it because we were learning about the number 7 and we discovered that there are 7 days in a week.  We all enjoyed reading this story and we joined in as Mrs Randall read it to us.

We all made our own story board.  Mrs Randall showed us how to do it first and then we had to do it.  We had to colour in the pictures from the story, then we had to cut them out and stick them in the right order.  We also practised writing the numbers from 1 to 7 on the story board.  It was a bit tricky but we all did a great job.

FLYING KITES

This week we have been learning about the letters c and k.  To help us remember the letter k sound we made CREATIVE, COLOURFUL KITES.  We decorated a diamond shape and then we make colourful paper chain tails.  Mrs Randall used a hole punch to make a hole in the top and tied a long piece of string to it.

When our buddies came down to see us they took us out to the playground to fly our kites.  It was perfect kite flying weather, it was sunny and there was a light breeze.  We were very excited to see our kites flying.  We had the best time.  Mrs Randall took some photos of us and also made a video  to show how much fun we had.  We have kept our kites at school to put up on the ceiling of our classroom so that it looks like they are flying.  We will get to take them home before the holidays.

THE QUEST FOR THE GOLDEN LEPRECHAUN

Today our school celebrated St Patrick's Day.  We celebrated it because we are a catholic school and because a lot of people who live in Australia are descended from people who came to Australia from Ireland. To celebrate the day all the children and teachers dressed in green and we took part in the QUEST FOR THE GOLDEN LEPRECHAUN.  We were all put into groups.  Each group had children from prep to year 7.  We rotated around different activities and earnt points for our team.  The team that had the most points at the end of 7 activities won the GOLDEN LEPRECHAUN!
The teams were named after places in Ireland.  They were DUBLIN, WICKLOW, LIMERICK, DONEGAL, GALWAY, WATERFORD, CORK, KERRY, TIPPERARY, WEXFORD, TRALEE, KILLARNEY, KILKENNY AND KILDARE.
The activities we did were THE POTATO HUNT, MUSICIAL STATUES, EGG AND SPOON RACE, CORNERS, THE HOOLA HOOP GAME, NETBALL SHOOTOUT and  SOCCER SCORING.
The winning team was WICKLOW and Kyle and Ava were lucky enough to be in that team.  They got an iceblock for winning.
We all had great fun even though there could only be one winning team.
